Certifying Biogas Facilities & Gas Upgrade Compressors
Code Compliance, Carbon Capture, and Clean Energy Profitability
Titan Research Group: Leaders in Biogas Compliance & Certification
At Titan Research Group, we specialize in certifying biogas systems and gas upgrade compressors for compliance with the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and CSA B149.6—Canada’s premier standard for propane and natural gas installation and handling in biogas applications. From manure digesters to advanced CO₂ sequestration, we help clients across North America unlock clean energy opportunities with total regulatory confidence.

How Biogas from Manure Becomes Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)
Biogas systems begin with anaerobic digestion, a natural process where organic material—such as manure—is broken down in an oxygen-free tank. This produces a mix of gases, primarily:
- Methane (CH₄) – the energy-rich component
- Carbon dioxide (CO₂)
- Trace impurities (e.g., H₂S, siloxanes, moisture)
To make this gas usable as pipeline-quality renewable natural gas (RNG), it must be purified through a biogas upgrading system. These systems—often involving membrane separation, water scrubbing, or PSA (pressure swing adsorption)—strip out CO₂ and impurities, leaving 95–99% pure methane ready for grid injection or on-site use.
All pressure-retaining components, including compressors, scrubbers, and storage vessels, must meet the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) and be registered with the appropriate safety authority in your province or territory. Titan Research Group helps design, certify, and register affiliated precursor systems in full compliance with CSA B149.6.
Sequestering CO₂ from Biogas: The Next Frontier
Once CO₂ is removed from raw biogas, it can be:
- Released (least desirable)
- Used in greenhouses, food processing, or industrial cooling
- Sequestered—captured and stored underground or chemically stabilized to reduce greenhouse gas emissions
With proper compression and liquefaction, CO₂ from biogas can be permanently sequestered or sold for carbon utilization, creating a low-emission or even carbon-negative facility. Titan Research Group assists in the design and pressure compliance of CO₂ recovery and storage systems, paving the way for enhanced environmental and financial performance.

Carbon Credits: Turning Clean Gas into Real Returns
Canada's carbon credit market offers substantial financial upside for compliant biogas projects. A typical manure-to-RNG facility can generate carbon offsets from:
- Methane capture and destruction
- Avoided fossil fuel use
- CO₂ sequestration
These credits are tradable assets that can be sold to emitters or on provincial exchanges (e.g., Alberta TIER, federal OBPS). Depending on facility size and CO₂ savings, the sale of carbon credits can significantly improve ROI—sometimes doubling payback speed compared to traditional waste-to-energy projects.
Titan Research Group provides compliance strategies that help maximize credit eligibility, including:
- Proper metering and reporting systems
- Code-certified equipment validation
· Support for environmental auditing
